Sheriff’s Department employees will have access to TOOTRiS, a platform from a San Diego company that connects parents and providers. Agencies struggling with vacancies are trying to offer benefits like Child Care and housing.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that the San Diego Sheriff’s Department is partnering with local San Diego tech startup, TOOTRiS, to provide free Child Care Benefits to its employees. The platform connects parents with nearly 4,000 licensed Child Care centers and in-home care providers across the county. This service is being offered to address the shortage of affordable Child Care and to help hire and retain workers, as many government agencies are struggling with vacancies.

The Sheriff’s Department hopes this perk will provide peace of mind to its employees and make it easier for them to find Child Care that accommodates their needs. The department is covering the subscription cost of TOOTRiS for its employees, and nearly two dozen have already signed up for the platform. Other government agencies, such as the San Diego Police Officers Association, are also working to provide affordable Child Care for their employees.

Quotes from the Article

“It’s nice to have an option that provides so many different facilities for our deputies and staff to use. I was a single mom a lot of that time, so even for myself, it was always difficult to find Child Care for night shifts, weekends and all those crazy hours that we work, if we can offer something that provides people that peace of mind that they’ll have an opportunity to find Child Ccare more easily that can accommodate the family’s needs, I think it’ll help us bring people in the door,” – Sheriff Kelly Martinez

“Historically, the child-care system has been broken, so the bottom line is the sheriff is a key example of an incredibly innovative way to incorporate new benefits that truly make an impact on the lives not only of working families, but our future workforce.” – Alessandra Lezama, TOOTRiS CEO
