Founded in 1914 as a single settlement house assisting immigrants as they transitioned to life in America, the Neighborhood House Association (NHA) has grown in its 100+ years of service to provide a comprehensive library of aid and support programs to the San Diego community. The NHA provides its services through the lens of its ‘Continuum of Care Model’, which promises support from the prenatal stages of life all the way through to senior care. This comprehensive model offers several options for both children and adults to find safe spaces and the resources necessary to build healthy, stable lives. These services include:
Black Infant Health
The San Diego County Black Infant Health Program, operated by NHA, supports pregnant and parenting African-American women to ensure the health of their babies. Participation includes a 10 week prenatal and postpartum group covering such topics as CPR, infant nurturing, and developing healthy relationships. The program also supports mothers in finding prenatal and well-child care, getting referrals for Public Health Nursing and other health and social services in addition to providing meals and transportation services. African-American women ages 18 and over who are 30 weeks or fewer pregnant are eligible for the program.
